There are many places in this island perfect for a scuba diving adventure. Most of these spots can be approached by Trincomalee, Hikkaduwa, Kalpitiya, Negambo and Kirinda beaches. Around these beaches there are many diving schools which will teach and help you to get PADI certification.
Trincomalee is a natural harbor and was a world renowned one from the days of past. The British aircraft Hermes sank into the seas of Trincomalee during World War 2 and the wrecks of it including the cockpit is still there to be explored by the divers. The seas at Hikkaduwa gives a variety of ship wrecks, corals, caves and aquatic life to be explored and adds to the list of things to do in Sri Lanka. Kalpitiya has one of the best bar reefs of the Island which makes it home for pretty corals and fish. Diyana Gala, Derana Gala and Lobster reef are the perfect spots for Diving in Negambo. From the Kirinda beach, you can approach the Great and Little Basses which are large reefs home to many marine animals. They are home to big fish like sharks, barracudas and dogtooth tunas.
